Simulation, analysis, and physical builds from the BEng at Sussex. Next up is the final year project: deep learning for Phase Rainbow Refractometry spray images.

  • Turbulent backward-facing step

    CFD

    2D flow at Re 5100 in ANSYS Fluent with SST k-omega RANS. A seven-mesh grid study showed mesh independence from roughly 23,000 cells, with reattachment length overpredicting DNS by 5.4%.

  • Truss and Belleville washer analysis

    FEA

    Planar pin-jointed truss solved in MATLAB as Ax = b, validated against ANSYS truss and beam-element models. Nonlinear Belleville washer force-deflection behaviour compared across analytical, 2D axisymmetric, and 3D FEA models.

  • Quanser Aero 2 pitch control

    Controls

    Pitch control on Quanser's twin-rotor Aero 2, locked to one degree of freedom: second-order modelling of the rotor dynamics, transient response and stability analysis, and a PID loop to hold the angle.

  • Formula Student

    Sussex Racing

    Prototype battery cooling design with Peltier modules, and SolidWorks work on the chain shroud and surrounding bodywork. The contribution that stuck was moving the team's scattered low-voltage code onto GitHub and refactoring it into something maintainable.
